What's For Dinner: Pies, American BBQ, Beef Sirloin Burgers, and more!

This week on What’s For Dinner? we’ve highlighted the not-so-humble Ultimate Kiwi Pie, voted on our favourite Fourth of July BBQ classics, served up the Almost All-Canadian Beef Sirloin Burger, and looked at iron supplement shortages.

The Ultimate Pie For The Start of July

June was all about winter warmers and comfort food - stews, soups, and casseroles. Taking a look at the temperatures, it looks like July is going to offer more of the same! We picked this Ultimate Kiwi Pie for our recipe of the week, not just because pie rhymes with July (though that was part of it), but also because Kiwis absolutely love the taste of this slow-cooked favourite.

This recipe is perfect for cheaper cuts like cross cut blade steak, chuck steak, or gravy beef and the slow cooking ensures that the meat is pull-apart and tender!

Your Fourth of July Favourite

Yesterday was the 4th of July, the day that our American friends celebrate their Independence Day. There's a lot to love about American cuisine, and even more to love about the BBQ-fare that makes up most 4th of July celebrations. We've whittled down dozens of American BBQ staples to a top four and now need your help in selecting the best of the bunch.

Nationwide Shortage Of Iron Supplements

As we've previously pointed out Kiwis are spending $1 billion dollars a year on supplements. It now looks like there's a nationwide shortage of iron supplements at the moment with some pharmacies being forced to place restrictions on prescriptions.

Guess what isn’t lacking in iron? That’s right, natural, grass-fed New Zealand beef and lamb, like the sort found in the recipe above. Check out some of our recipes here.

The ALMOST All-Canadian Beef Burger

Don't think we forgot about our Canadian mates, who also celebrated their independence this week too. When you think Canada; mooses, maple syrup, and ice hockey fights probably come to mind but we prefer to celebrate Canada Day with this wonderful burger.  Check out the recipe here.

✔️Delicious Back bacon
