Get Your Sparkle Back

Do you remember what it feels like to be full of life; have boundless energy; to leap out of bed each morning with a sparkle in your eye? Do you feel that way now or perhaps you’re feeling a little lacklustre? Food is not the whole picture but what we eat can impact greatly on our energy levels, our mood and the way we feel about ourselves.

Are you after a little more vitality in your life? Read on for our tips (hint: there’s no quick fix or magic bullet involved!)

  • Aiming to eat a wide range of healthy foods is a great place to start. Whole foods such as fruit, vegetables, lean meats, legumes, nuts and seeds all provide essential nutrients our body needs in varying amounts.

  • Make an effort to rotate the types of fruits and vegetables you eat each week so you are getting more variety in your nutrient intake. Spinach and banana are popular as they are so versatile but don’t get stuck eating these every week. For example, oranges and kiwifruit will up your vitamin c intake while swapping spinach for sprouts one week will help diversify your gut bacteria. Eating seasonally is a simple way to naturally rotate your fruit and vegetable selection.

  • Get yourself checked! If you’re feeling constantly tired, lethargic and/or irritable you may be low in iron. Get a blood test from your doctor to confirm and then take a look at your diet. Increasing your lean red meat and vitamin C intake is one dietary method you might be able to use to help you get back on track.
